Derby, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The state Office of Inspector General has released a report on a shooting from last year involving a Derby police officer.
The report states that Officer Patrick Foley was justified when he fired his weapon at a suspect on April 26, 2021.
Foley stated he was seated in his cruiser early that morning when two men, one identified as Corneilius McCullough, 29, ran up to the police car banging on the window.
It was while Foley was talking to McCullough that a car drove by, after which McCullough followed the vehicle on foot and opened fire.
Foley fired his service weapon once, then again when McCullough approached him with the gun in hand.
McCullough was wounded but survived.
The IG's report concludes Foley fired his weapon to stop McCullough from shooting at the vehicle and the police officer.
He was subsequently charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and criminal possession of a firearm.
