West Hartford, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-Emphasizing her background running two businesses, her MBA and experience on the West Hartford Town Council, Mary Fay is seeking the Republican nomination for Comptroller.
Fay said the state needs to return to a more business-friendly atmosphere, honoring small business owners, allowing people to stay in their homes, while keeping an eye on state finances.
"There's a huge budget number coming through, with a questionable surplus. 65-thousand employee payroll and benefits, all going up with inflation. It's making our state unaffordable. We need to make a change and get businesses back."
Fay said we need to reapportion and change the way taxes work. She argued the inheritance tax is a problem and that an effort must be made to stop the out-migration of businesses and people.
"Before Weicker and the state income tax and Democrats took hold of it for four decades, we attracted Fortune 500 companies, financial services, manufacturing and engineering jobs."
Earlier this week Guilford State Representative Sean Scanlon announced he's seeking the Democratic nomination for comptroller. He's executive Director of Tweed New Haven Airport and Co-Chairs the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee.
