Ridgefield man convicted in January 6 attack

Washington, D.C./WTIC Radio - A Ridgefield man who was part of the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol last year has learned his fate in federal court.

Twenty-five-year-old Patrick McCaughey III was convicted on all counts in federal court Tuesday in Washington D.C.

McCaughey was found guilty of nine offenses including seven felonies, including assaulting an officer, using a dangerous weapon, aiding or abetting or assaulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers, and civil disorder, among others.

On videotape from the scene, McCaughey is seen using a riot shield to pin injured D.C. Metro police officer Daniel Hodges against a door frame.

After being released initially last year after four months, McCaughey is back in custody where he will await his sentencing on January 26 of next year.

Two other defendants were also found guilty for their parts in the melee and riot on January 6, 2021.
