Snowstorm shaping up for the start of the new week

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut, like much of the Northeast, is expecting a messy start to the new week.

A winter storm that is developing in the Atlantic is forecast to dump 12'' to 18'' in the region Sunday into late Monday.

Watches and warnings are already going up across the state, per the National Weather Service. A blizzard warning will be in effect for Connecticut's shoreline. A winter storm warning is in effect for the northern portions of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties. A winter storm watch is in effect for Litchfield, Hartford, Tolland, and Windham Counties.

All of those watches and warnings are in effect from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Monday.
