Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - There are a couple of important votes this week the state House and Senate.

Both chambers are expected to vote on a proposal to add $40 million in special education funding to the figure already in the current fiscal year, which runs through june.

That's about $181 million.

State House speaker Matt Ritter says they've been hearing from constiuents about how special education costs are putting the squeeze on municipal budgets.

The supplemental funding will be distributed through the ECG--the Excess Cost Grant program.

Democrats in the House are also proposing a measure they say would lower costs and strengthen services.

The House is expected to take up action on Monday with the Senate following suit on Tuesday.
