Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The state Department of Public Health is announcing the first confirmed case of measles in Connecticut in 2026.
The patient is an unvaccinated Hartford County adult.
Officials say Connecticut is one of the last states in the country and New England to report any measles activity.
According to DPH, in the last five years, Connecticut has only logged two positive cases.
Those cases were of unvaccinated individuals who'd traveled abroad.
The resident in the most recent case did travel abroad and began showing symptoms upon returning, said DPH.
They're currently in the hospital in stable condition with symptoms which include fever, sore throat, a cough, diarrhea and a rash.
DPH says measles can spread quickly through the air by way of coughs and sneezes.
The department says about one in five unvaccinated people who develop measles winds up in the hospital.
