Cromwell, Conn./WTIC Radio - State police are investigating an apparent crash in which a child was pulled from the Connecticut River on Monday.

Troopers responded just before 5:30 Monday afternoon to find an unoccupied vehicle on the southbound side of Route 9 at exit 25.

They say a woman and the child walked down an embankment after getting out of the vehice.

They then found the adult female walking along the northbound side of the highway about two hours later, after which the child was found in a rocky section of the river.

Investigators are still trying to figure out if the woman intentionally or inadvertently went down the embankment.
