MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Manchester Police arrest a 17-year-old boy who allegedly tried to commit 'suicide by cop' while appearing armed at a school in Manchester.
10 adults on the playground at the Verplanck Elementary School shepherding a total of 29 students into the building, after a suspect wearing a black clothing and holding a rifle at the school was seen from the back of the school.
The suspect then pointed the rifle at the school, into classroom windows, and at students and staff while the school went into a lockdown.
Police say the suspect, who lives in Manchester, eventually complied with officer demands to drop the weapon and go down on the ground.
The rifle was found to be an airsoft gun.
The teen, whose name isn't being released because of his age, is charged with first-degree threatening, 39 counts of reckless endangerment, 40 counts of second-degree breach of peace, possession of a weapon on school grounds, carrying a dangerous weapon, illegal use of a facsimile firearm, and 29 counts of risk of injury.
