The final vote in the Senate on the $24 billion package was 24-12.

While the majority party pointed toward the $600 million in tax cuts the second year of the biennial budget boasts, Republicans were hoping for even more tax relief, pointing toward over $1 billion in what they call "inflation-related windfall revenue".

Tax cuts in the final plan include extending the 25-cent-a-gallon gasoline tax suspension through early December.

Also, there will be a one-year $250 child tax credit along with an increase in the property tax credit to $300, as well as a roll back in the car tax in some municipalities.

Governor Lamont said their package gives taxpayers the largest cut in history "while paying down $3.5 billion in unfunded liabilities and making investments in childcare, crime prevention and the environment".
