Around 3 a.m. on Thursday, South Windsor Police Department arrested three teenagers who attempted to evade pursuit on Route 5 after stealing a vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was reported to police as it traveled south from East Windsor. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused and did a U-turn back north on Route 5.
Police were successful in deploying stop sticks to deflate the tires of the vehicle, which was ultimately found abandoned by Strong Road and West Road.
A State Police K-9 and Manchester PD drone assisted in locating 18-year-old Jovanie Candelaria of Springfield, MA as he attempted to flee in an Uber. The other two suspects, 18-year-old Teyvaun Williams-Santiago of Greenfield, MA and 18-year-old Zachary Hardy of Gardner, MA, were found locked in a shed on West Road when an officer smelled marijuana coming from the building. Police believe Candelaria locked Williams-Santiago and Hardy in the shed when he went to secure the Uber.
All suspects were taken into custody without incident and charged with Engaging Police in Pursuit, Interfering with an Officer/Resisting, Burglary in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Trespass in the 2nd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, among other charges.
Candelaria and Williams-Santiago were held on a $10,000 surety bond, while Hardy’s was set at $20,000. All three were set to appear in Manchester Superior Court this morning.
