Hartford police are investigating a shooting that killed a three-year-old boy Saturday afternoon. The victim is identified as Rondell Jones, who was in a car with two other children when shots were fired.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area of 182 Nelson Street around 2:25 p.m. Rondell was struck, brought to the hospital by private vehicle and pronounced dead a short time later.
Police say that video footage shows a black Honda Accord pulling up to the vehicle carrying Rondell, two siblings, his mother and an unidentified man.
Someone in the Accord opened fire.
Police say the man in the vehicle that carried the victim was the apparent intended target and ran from the scene.
Police say the suspect's vehicle was confirmed to be a stolen vehicle out of Windsor Locks. It was later found unoccupied by a member of the Hartford Auto Theft Task Force.
Police later responded to reports of another shooting on Magnolia Street that killed Jamari Preston, 16, of New Britain.
It's unknown if the shootings are connected.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hartford Police Department at (860)-722-TIPS (8477).
