WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Wethersfield Town Council has voted to fire longtime Chief of Police James Cetran.
The 6-1 vote came early Wednesday after a termination proceeding that stretched for over six hours.
Cetran, a 47-year veteran of the force, initially announced his intention to retire in January, but then changed his mind, and said he would not be leaving at the end of August.
The town insists Cetran violated his retirement agreement, which was reached after Cetran returned from a paid suspension. Cetran counters that it was the town that violated the agreement-- prompting him to decide to rescind his retirement.
"I've always done my job. I've always done it well," said Cetran. "I do plan on leaving, but I want to leave under my own terms."
