Middletown, Conn./WTIC Radio - State police will provide enhanced security at public Hanukkah celebrations this season.

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection says it's in response to mass shootings at Brown University in Rhode Island and at a Hanukkah gathering in Australia.

DESPP Commissioner Ronnell Higgins says they're not aware of any specific threats.

He says they'll maintain a heightened awareness and provide an added presence at Jewish community events.

CSP commanding officer Colonel Daniel Loughman says the goal is to keep people safe and ensure that families can gather and worship without fear or intimidation.
