Two New Haven County crashes just minutes apart early New Year's Day killed two drivers and seriously injured another.
Police in Hamden say they got the call at 1:38 am for a two-car crash near 2200 Whitney Ave. They say a car driven by Taya Petteway-Campbell, 22, of Hamden, crossed the center line, slamming head-on into a vehicle driven by James McKenna, 55, of North Haven. McKenna died a short time later at Yale New Haven Hospital. Petteway-Campbell was taken there with serious injuries.
A few minutes later and just three miles away, North Haven police responded to another two-vehicle crash at 34 Clintonville Rd. One driver, a 54 year old man, was also sent to Yale New Haven Hospital. He died a few hours later. Two people in the other vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The cause remains under investigation.
