Westport, Conn./WTIC Radio - In Westport, the fire department responded to two separate incidents involving lightning on Monday.

Fire officials say lightning struck a home on Joanne Circle.

A fire was contained to the room of origin and no injuries were reported.

Later in the evening, lightning struck an invisible pet fence on Bayberry Lane.

There was some electrical damage but no injuries.

Westport Fire Marshal Terry Dunn said "these incidents serve as a strong reminder that summer storms can be dangerous, and things can go wrong quickly.”

The department is urging residents to unplug pet containment systems during storms, use surge protectors for electronics and appliances, and stay indoors and away from windows during a thunderstorm.
