Vernon police cruiser stops fleeing suspect

VERNON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Vernon Police have taken a suspect into custody following a crash involving a Vernon police cruiser.

Vernon Police began investigating a criminal mischief complaint from earlier this morning.


Officers were able to locate a suspect at 373 Talcottville Road.

As officers approached the suspect, he fled the area in a car at a high rate of speed through a parking lot and onto southbound Talcottville Road.

The suspect allegedly drove at multiple vehicles and police cruisers. Officers attempted to stop the suspect but he sped away, drove into oncoming traffic, and was last seen in Manchester on Tolland Turnpike.

An officer returning to Vernon was stopped at a red light in Manchester when the suspect vehicle struck the officer’s police cruiser.

The suspect continued to drive recklessly. Due to the risk to public safety, a Vernon Police Officer his car to stop the suspect, which ended in a crash on Taylor Street in Manchester.

The suspect fled on foot and was subsequently arrested inside a business located at 100 Tolland Turnpike, according to Police.

The suspect went to an area hospital for precautionary measures.

There were no injuries.

Vernon and Manchester Police are working on the investigation.
