WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Wallingford Police identify the man killed in a crash Monday evening.

Investigators say Michael Beauvais, 65, of Wallingford, was driving a white 2007 Ford Econoline Van on Route 68 - Church Street near Hope Hill Road around 6:45 p.m.

Witnesses were able to see the van then drove off the right shoulder of the roadway hitting a pedestrian crossing sign, before making contact with a utility pole at Church Street and New Place Street. The impact caused tension to the wires which resulted in an additional pole snapping.

The van then drove on the property of United Methodist Church running
over flower beds, striking a small tree then a log causing the van to rollover on its right side on the property of 377 Church Street.

The van came to a complete stop two feet away from the home, not making contact.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Beauvais was not wearing a seat belt.
