Representatives for the man known as "S" in the Waterbury Captivity Case say they'll get confidential access to documents concerning a Connecticut Department of Children and Families investigation into his alleged captivity at his Waterbury home.
The man's legal team fought the State of Connecticut to secure access into a new internal report on how DCF handled his case from 2004 and 2005.
Original documents from that time had found the agency believed "S" was healthy at his family's house on Blake Street in Waterbury, after his former school reported concerns around the time he was pulled from school at age 11.
Only after setting the house on fire in 2025 to be set free, "S" told authorities his stepmother, Kimberly Sullivan, held him in captivity for nearly 20 years. It sparked criticism into the agency, leading to the investigation.
"S" was rescued from the house, weighing 68 pounds.
Kimberly Sullivan has denied wrongdoing and has rejected a plea deal on kidnapping and other charges in the case.
A trial could begin early next year.
