WATERBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Waterbury Police say three arrests have been made after one of their officers was shot in the leg during an Auto Theft Task Force investigation.
Police say the ATTF officers were conducting an investigation concerning attempted carjacking’s at various locations throughout the city.
During the investigation, officers encountered suspects in the West End of Waterbury.
While engaging with the suspects, an ATTF officer, identified as Detective R.J. Sackett, was struck by gunfire in the leg.
The injured officer was transported to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. He's expected to make a full recovery.
Three suspects have been taken into custody and placed under arrest.
They're identified as Sydney Reid, 18, Alberto Rodriguez, 19, and Arian Perez-Feliciano, 20.
Reid is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree larceny, two counts of first-degree threatening, two counts of carrying a pistol without a permit, interfering with an officer, and two counts of illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle. Bond is $1,500,000.
Rodriguez is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree larceny, first-degree threatening, criminal use of a weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, interfering with an officer, and two counts of illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle. Bond is $1,500,000.
Perez-Feliciano is charged with first-degree assault, unlawful discharge, two counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, criminal attempt a murder, assault on a police officer, interfering with an officer, criminal use of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of carrying a pistol without a permit, and possession of a high-capacity magazine and obliterated serial number. Bond is $2,000,000.
The Waterbury Police Department is working in coordination with the Waterbury State’s Attorney’s Office and the Connecticut Office of the Inspector General to investigate this incident.
