Man arrested, charged with murder in connection with fatal October shooting in Waterbury

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Waterbury Police have arrested a man wanted in the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old in early October.

Police arrested Jacob Morales, 24, of Waterbury, on Monday in connection with the killing of Luis Robert Vazquez, 27, also of Waterbury.


On October 7, police went to Walnut Avenue on the report of shots fired. Vazquez was found shot in the head and in the torso while seated in the driver's seat of a 2020 Kia Optima. A paramedic pronounced Vazquez dead at the scene. It was also noted the Kia had heavy front-end damage, after slamming into a fire hydrant and parked unoccupied vehicle.

Morales has been charged with murder, first degree criminal attempt at assault, criminal use of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal transfer of a pistol/revolver, illegal discharge of a firearm, first degree reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and violation of probation.

Morales is being held on a $2,000,000.00 bond pending arraignment in court.
