WATERBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—The Waterbury Police Department is searching for a suspect as the investigation into a late night homicide continues.
At around 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, Waterbury officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of East Main Street at Wall Street.
Upon arrival, police found Gregory Rafael Santos-Frias, 23, of Waterbury suffering from several gunshot wounds. Officers rendered aid to him, but he succumbed to the fatal injuries, police said.
Throughout the week, police have been investigating the shooting. On Monday, officers arrested Charles Smith, 41, for his involvement in the homicide.
On Thursday, police announced that further investigation led to information pertaining to another suspect's involvement in the killing.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Basil Smith, 29, whose last known address was in Bridgeport. Basil Smith is considered armed and dangerous, police said.
The warrant includes 11 different charges, including Murder, Criminal Use of a Weapon and Assault in the first degree.
Officials describe Basil Smith as 5'10" and weighing about 150 lbs with long black dread locks.
