Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - West Nile virus infected mosquitoes have been tracked in ten Connecticut towns, according to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station.

That includes shoreline communities like Branford and East Haven, says the East Shore Health District.

Other towns include Wethersfield, Wallingford, South Windsor, Stamford and New Canaan to name a few.

Experts say the bumper crop of mosquitoes is due in large part to the over one foot of rain that fell across  parts of the state in July, coupled with warm, humid days.

CAES advises getting rid of pools of standing water around the house and using repellent when outdoors at dawn and dusk especially to mitigate mosquito bites.
