Woman's death in Waterbury police custody under investigation

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Connecticut Office of Inspector General is investigating the death of a woman who died in Waterbury Police custody.

The Inspector General says Alyssa Insogna, 29, died Saturday, May 10, 2025, after being arrested May 9th near an abandoned house on Willow Street.


At the time of her arrest, police searched her and recovered multiple folds of suspected narcotics, which later tested positive for heroin/fentanyl.

A record check revealed that Insogna was wanted on additional warrants.

A preliminary investigation finds Insogna was unable to make bond and was being held until at least Monday, May 12, when she was due in court.

The office says police were monitoring her.

at 9:15 a.m., she was observed as being awake. During a cell check at noon, she appeared to be sleeping. At 2:23 p.m., she was found unresponsive. Insogna was pronounced dead at 2:53 p.m.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Isogna's body. Her cause of death is listed as "undetermined," pending toxicology tests.
