Biden defended use of the autopen during his administration, which some claim was used to cover up his alleged decline in mental faculties while in office. Know that an autopen is a mechanical device that basically acts as a mechanical arm to write someone's signature in their exact same style. Both Biden and Trump have acknowledged using it at times.
“Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false,” Biden said.
He added in a statement, "This is nothing more than a distraction by Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans who are working to push disastrous legislation that would cut essential programs like Medicaid and raise costs on American families, all to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations."
Still, Trump wants an investigation. He ordered the White House counsel and Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate whether anyone "conspired to deceive the public about Biden's mental state and unconstitutionally exercise the authorities and responsibilities of the President."
"This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history," Trump wrote in a memo. "The American public was purposefully shielded from discovering who wielded the executive power, all while Biden’s signature was deployed across thousands of documents to effect radical policy shifts." Republicans in Congress who support the measure want special scrutiny on pardons issued late in Biden's presidency.
CNN noted that the signature on Biden's son Hunter Biden was sloppy, indicating former President Biden signed it himself. "Who was running the country for the last four years?" White House Press Secretary Karoline Levitt said during a press conference.
