(WWJ) -- Nearly 28,000 pounds of DiGiorno Crispy Pan Crust Pepperoni Pizza is being recalled by Nestlé due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.
The protect is labeled as ‘Pepperoni Pizza,’ but may actually be DiGiorno’s ‘Three Meat Crispy Pan Crust Pizza,’ which contains textured soy protein — a known allergen.
"People who are allergic to soy could have an allergic reaction and should not consume the product," Nestlé said.
The pizzas were produced on June 30, 2021, with the lot code 1181510721 and a “Best Buy” date of MAR2022 on the label.
The products also have the establishment number “EST. 1682A” inside the USDA mark of inspection, according to the FSIS.
The products are sold at retail locations across the country.
The USDA qualifies the situation as a "Class I" recall, noting that it meets the requirements of “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."
So far, there have been no reports of illnesses or allergic reactions from consuming the mislabeled pizza, and there is no safety issue for those who do not have a soy allergy.
Consumers are advised to throw away affected products, and contact the company at 800-681-1676 or online with any questions.
