A Detroit man wanted for breaking into several vehicles in Livonia and surrounding communities has been arrested, according to Livonia police.

The suspect, 32, was arrested Friday night.

"This past Friday, August 14th, as a result of the investigation the suspect was located and arrested by members of the Livonia Police Surveillance Unit while the suspect was attempting to break into vehicles," Livonia Police Captain Eric Marcotte told WWJ's Miranda Richardson. "The suspect attempted to flee the area in his vehicle, but was stopped by a Livonia police officer utilizing the Grappler device where he was taken into custody without further incident."

The man's name won't be released until after his arraignment, which could take place Monday afternoon or Tuesday. He has an extensive criminal history, according to Marcotte who added "he's been around for awhile, he knows the game and is well aware of what he has been doing."

The break-ins have been happening over the past three weeks. The suspect took electronics and other items from the vehicles and would take them home and sell them.

"Without the diligent work of our field evidence technicians who were out there processing multiple scenes in the rain, through storms, coming back hours later putting in several hours of their time in these scenes to eventually pull the suspects latent print off some of the items inside these vehicles which led to the identification of the suspect which led to our surveillance team getting on him and catching him in the act of doing an larceny from a vehicle," Marcotte said.

The man is suspected of similar break-ins in Hazel Park, Highland Park, Warren and Redford Township.

Police say owners should make sure to lock their vehicle doors.
