Former President Donald Trump is taking yet another opportunity to slam his main GOP nominee opponent, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, this time over his recent polling.
Trump took to his social media site Truth Social on Wednesday, sharing that “DeSanctimonious Poll numbers are Crashing.”
When assessing why DeSantis has seen a slip in the polls, Trump suggested a number of possibilities, including his political stances and his “lack of loyalty.”
“Is it that he is a not very skilled politician, or perhaps his not so long ago fight against Farmers, Social Security, and MediCare??? Or maybe it’s the lack of loyalty to the man who took the DeSanctus failing campaign, and through a strong Endorsement, got him elected,” Trump said. “Whatever it is, few have ever witnessed a drop so fast and so severe. It’s a beautiful thing, isn’t it?”
The rant from Trump follows another post he made on Tuesday, where he asked why media outlets weren’t showing polls that had him up on their “candidate.”
“Why doesn’t Fox News, or the Globalist Wall Street Journal, put up the tremendous polls that are being released daily showing that I am up on their ‘candidate,’ Ron DeSanctimonious, & all of the others that are having a good time ‘running’ (but with no results!), by record type numbers. ‘Aida’ Hutchinson just scored a big, fat ZERO. What is he doing? Same for Sloppy Chris Christie, a complete psycho with nothing to say. I hope they are all having a good time. Poll: I’m beating Crooked Joe BIG!!!” Trump wrote.
Recent polls have shown support for DeSantis is slipping, while Trump continues to have overwhelming support from Republicans.
In polls that have Trump theoretically match up against President Joe Biden, the two are neck and neck. In the most recent Quinnipiac poll, Trump and Biden had a statistical tie, with Biden leading Trump 47% to 46%.
The poll also looked at Trump versus other Republicans. When asked who Republican voters would support for the 2024 nominee, 62% chose Trump, followed by DeSantis (12%) and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (6%).
Another poll out of South Carolina found similar results this week. The Washington Post-Monmouth University poll found that, despite being the former governor of the state, Trump out-performed nominee hopeful Nikki Haley 46% to 18%.
As the Republican primary grows near, Trump remains the top choice among voters, even with his ongoing legal trouble.
