Florida police shared on Tuesday that a 30-year-old woman, who was one of eight people shot at a party held following a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade, has succumbed to her injuries and died.

According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the party, being held at Ilous Ellis Park in Fort Pierce, Florida, was disrupted by gunfire at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Police have yet to identify the woman, but they did share that she died of her injuries while at the hospital on Tuesday morning.

The victim was also at the party with her 6-year-old daughter, but it was not made clear by the authorities if she was injured in the gunfire.

“Now what was a shooting investigation has turned into a murder investigation,” Sheriff Ken Mascara said.

Chief Deputy Brian Hester and Mascara both shared that an additional seven people were shot at the party, and four others suffered injuries attempting to flee. The men shared that over 50 shell casings from three different-caliber weapons were recovered at the park by police.

According to police, the shooting was a result of a dispute between two rival gangs, but no suspects have been publicly named yet.

Two of the other seven shot are still hospitalized but said to be in stable condition, and all of the others have since been released, Hester shared.

Those with information are asked to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.
