(Willimantic, Conn./WTIC) - No injuries were reported but eight people were displaced after an early morning house fire in Willimantic.

Fire officials say the blaze just before 2:00 this morning at 193 North Street was initially reported as a porch fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters say the rear of the home was fully involved and had extended to a house in back on Summit Street.

The blaze ultimately went to a third alarm.

Chief Mark Scrivener says it was a older model four-story home.

He says the structure was likely built in the early 1900s.

He says there were no fire stops and fire got into the walls and the attic.

Those displaced are being assisted by the Red Cross.

A preliminary investigation found that the home was in compliance with fire codes and did have working smoke detectors.

The chief says his crews received mutual aid from several neighboring departments including Mansfield, Columbia, North and South Windham, Hebron, Scotland and UConn.

It took about two hours to bring the fire under control.

The fire marshal is investigating.
