Danbury, Conn.-WTIC) Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton says this month his city has experienced a greater community spread of Covid than in April, its peak.
The ten-term Mayor says the city is doing all it can to contain the spread, including schools still operating remotely. He says they have operated that way since March.
As for the High school he maintains, "if you have 35-hundred 15 to 20-year olds under one roof you know you'll have spread going on. I do bristle at people who say there's no spread in the schools. That's not true. It's just that it doesn't impact people the same way" He hopes schools can re-open in January, depending on the numbers.
As for Governor Lamont's ten thousand dollar fine for retail violators, Boughton says he appreciates the tools the Governor has provided to fight the spread. "But I don't know if it'll be assigned." He says the eye opener for him was the operation of restaurants, how tightly they're run. "We just had an iconic restaurant that opened in 1972 close permanently. So I think the economic impact will be as bad if not worse than the actual pandemic itself.", he said.
Boughton was a guest on the WTIC morning show.
