(New Haven, Conn./WTIC) - Researchers at the New Haven-based Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station say they have tracked West Nile Virus in 21 cities and towns across the state.

Dr. Philip Armstrong, chief medical entomologist at CAES, says upwards of 15 inches of precipitation between July and August have created perfect conditions for mosquito development.

He says homeowners would be wise to remove any standing water around the house to prevent mosquito breeding grounds from forming.

Armstrong says they expect mosquitoes to be active through the early fall.

To that end, experts also advise wearing long clothing at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are out.

If residents do plan to be outdoors during those periods, they're advised to wear long clothing and use insect repellent.

There have been no human cases of West Nile Virus or Eastern Equine Encephalitis so far this season.
