(NEW HAVEN, CONN. WTIC)- At least three known tick species are invading Connecticut in numbers never witnessed before, a research scientist at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station said.

The three known species are the Gulf Coast, Lone Star and Asian Long Horn.

According to Dr. Goudarz Molaei, what is more alarming is the fact that the number of tick submissions has far exceeded previous years and another peak is anticipated in October.

It appears the entire calendar year is now conducive to tick activity, Molaei said.

No known eradication system exits, but Molaei said he's working with federal partners on control guidelines.

Molaei encourages the public to continue to submit tick submissions. That helps in determining species and whether the ticks are carrying diseases, Molaei said. It also assists field studies, he said.
