HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—Work is underway for Connecticut to be among the first states to have its driver's licenses electronically available with Apple products.
Governor Ned Lamont shared the developing news on Twitter Tuesday, saying that the state is working with Apple to have licenses available on iPhones and Apple Watches through the Wallet app.
In a press release from Apple, the tech company shared that Arizona and Georgia will be the first states to introduce electronic licenses, followed by Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma and Utah.
In the statement from Apple, Lamont said, "We're excited to bring a new addition to our state's modernization efforts that will make our residents' lives easier and keep their identities secure through the use of mobile driver's licenses in Apple Wallet."
More information is expected at a later date about when state IDs and driver's licenses will be available for each state as well as which TSA airport security checkpoints and lanes will allow the new innovation first.
