(New Haven, Conn.)-Hundreds turned out for the funeral for fallen New Haven firefighter Ricardo Torres Junior who died battling a blaze on Valley Street last Wednesday.
The 30-year old Torres saved two people that day and officials said he rescued at least ten lives during his brief firefighting career.
He gained the nickname "Tornado" because of his high-energy but gained the respect as a leader of his graduating class two years ago.
Several spoke at the funeral at the historic Saint Mary's Church in New Haven, including his mother, stepfather and commanding officers.
Torres leaves behind his pregnant wife Erica, son and extended family.
Firefighters from as far away as Puerto Rico and Toronto paid their respects. Governor Ned Lamont, Lt. Governor Susan Bysciewicz and New Haven Mayor Justin Elecker also attended.
