HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—Governor Ned Lamont takes a moment to acknowledge the loss brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and to offer a glimmer of hope for Connecticut residents this Thanksgiving.

"There's no way to put on a cheerful face and pretend that everyone is whole when we've lost so much," Lamont said in a statement.

Lamont notes that families will see fewer faces around the dinner table this year, stating the virus has cost the lives of over 250,000 Americans as well as the jobs of countless more.

The pandemic robbed everyday reality for everyone, he said, and yet he stresses there is hope and plenty to be grateful for.

According to Lamont, the pandemic has reminded people of how inspiring and courageous people are when sacrifices need to be made on the community's behalf.

Lamont acknowledged the hard work, support and dedication of health care workers, teachers, nonprofits, COVID testing site volunteers, delivery workers and election workers.

The governor also said there are a number of promising coronavirus vaccines on the horizon.

"With this hope, despite the fatigue we all feel at having been deprived of even the most basic human interaction, it's more important than ever that we honor the efforts and sacrifice of our fellow Connecticut residents by staying vigilant," he said.

Lamont encourages residents to support charities in the state either through donations or other means.
