Governor says VP asked him for help housing migrant kids

Gov. Ned Lamont

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Governor Ned Lamont says Vice President Kamala Harris pulled him aside and asked him directly for help housing migrant children who've crossed the southern border.

The governor's response, as he recounted to the WTIC morning show: "I said, um, the State of Connecticut's gonna take a look at our options. We'll get back to you."

Lamont says the state is considering the old Connecticut Juvenile Training School in Middletown as a possible location, though no decisions have been made.

"We'd like a place that was certainly secure and something that was a good environment for young people," said Lamont.

The governor said he'll be discussing the possibility with legislative leadership.
