HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—After the state announced its plans to accelerate the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, Hartford HealthCare is launching a new outreach plan to facilitate scheduling vaccination appointments.
The healthcare system will be sending out about 264,000 messages to registered patients on Wednesday with a link to schedule a vaccination appointment, Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Ajay Kumar announced Tuesday.
Patients registered through Hartford HealthCare's MyChart system will be provided the link either by text or email, he said.
"So, you don't have to wait. You don't have to keep calling, but we would like to reach out to you, and you'll be able to click the special link. It'll get you the right page to be able to get the vaccination," Kumar said.
The focus will first be on those between the ages of 45 and 54, he said, who become eligible for the vaccine this Friday.
According to Kumar, it's an effort to lessen the challenges residents have faced in making vaccination appointments and to make scheduling appointments a seamless experience for Hartford HealthCare workers.
It will also help mitigate the large number of residents looking to book an appointment while also reaching out to thousands of residents across Connecticut to get the vaccine, he said.
