(HARTFORD, CONN. WTIC)-The state Judicial Department has unveiled a new mechanism to deter juvenile crime, including a recent uptick in car thefts state-wide.

Police can now access a juvenile's arrest record. Prior to this, law  enforcement lacked that information after hours.

West Hartford State Representative Jillian Gilchrest says town officials  are also interested in extending the order to detain  juveniles longer than six hours. They also question the pursuit policy.

Republicans want GPS monitoring, mandatory fingerprinting an overnight arraignments.

Gilchrest says it's possible the issue will come before a special session this fall.
