(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-The legislature's Judiciary Committee rejected an amendment that would clarify language under the Police Accountability measure that passed last July.
The substitute language, offered by Wallingford State Representative Craig Fischbein, would have changed the use of physical force under reasonable circumstances, to what the peace officer knew at the time.
Proponents argue under a stressful situation, officers use best judgement in making split-second decisions.
Opponents argued the new language just makes it more confusing for police officers.
The amendment failed 26-14, along party lines.
