STORRS, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The University of Connecticut's president is quitting.
Thomas Katsouleas has submitted his letter of resignation to the Board of Trustees chairman. The letter-- dated March 13-- says "for reasons we have discussed at length over time, I have made the difficult decision to resign."
The letter doesn't go into the reasons. However, Katsouleas wrote that he looks forward to continue contributing to the university's success as a faculty member.
UConn Spokesperson Stephanie Reitz explained that university officials agreed to announce the decision after the end of the semester to avoid distraction from commencement ceremonies and end-of-the-year events.
Katsouleas' last day on the job will be June 30. He became UConn's 16th president in 2019.
In a letter sent to the UConn community, Board of Trustees Chair Daniel Toscano said the board will be voting to appoint an interim president at the next meeting on May 19th. The selection will be announced to the community later that same day, he wrote.
