After taking most of January off, winter is staging a comeback.

With more than a foot of snow from last Monday's nor'easter barely melted, another round is jetting to Connecticut from the Midwest in time for Super Bowl Sunday.

The snowfall predictions vary from forecast to forecast, but the state is sure to see at least a few inches starting Sunday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland and Windham counties, taking effect at 6 am in most locations, with snowfall of up to 8 or 9 inches.

A lesser Winter Weather Advisory covers Hartford and Litchfield counties, with between 4 and 6 inches projected in the capital.

This blast from the Midwest won't linger as long as the earlier nor'easter, but it will drop snow faster, with 1 to 2 inches per hour falling during the midday hours.

Following the snow: several days of Canadian temperatures. Lows early Sunday morning in Minneapolis will plunge to a temperature that could send ice fishers home to warm up: -15 degrees.

It won't get that cold in Connecticut, but high temperatures will remain below freezing for much of the week, with overnight lows in the teens.
