Anthony Volpe made Yankees history on Thursday afternoon with a dramatic home run in the ninth inning.
Volpe laced a game-tying three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inside the right field foul pole for his 20th home run of the season, becoming just the 15th rookie in baseball history to join the 20/20 club, as he had reached 20 stolen bases earlier in the season.
The rookie shortstop became the first rookie in Yankee history to post a 20/20 season, and is just the third rookie shortstop to do it, joining Bobby Witt Jr. and Nomar Garciaparra.
Volpe struggled much of the season, but has posted an .838 OPS in the month of August, showing continued signs of improvement as a hopeful foundational piece for the organization moving forward.
