Only once in NFL history has a team gone 0-16, the most ignominious of “records” available in the National Football League.
One-third of the way through the 2020 season, BOTH New York teams are still alive to tie that record…and in today’s Audio Goodness sponsored by Ford, Boomer & Gio wonder if that’s something either or both fan bases should be rooting for – especially the Jets.
“At this point, it’s like, when is Adam Gase going to lose his job? There’s no way they’re going to bring him back, unless they end up winning 10 out their next 11,” Gio said. “Gase has to think that way, at least, and that’s impossible, because they’re the worst team in football.”
“When Robert Kraft wanted a new stadium, and wanted to make Foxboro his own little fiefdom, the way he did that was by winning,” Boomer added. “That’s when he gave Belichick and Brady the keys to the franchise, and look what they’ve built…all of that has to do with being a winning franchise. That’s why sometimes, the business side of the sport affects what happens on the playing side of the sport.”
For Gio, history never looks back fondly on a loser, but perhaps they might if Gang Green end up as the ultimate losers in 2020.
“I am really rooting for an 0-16 season, because winning one or two games makes them more boring,” Gio said. “Rooting for them to go winless is at least something. I mean, this team will go down in history, and be remembered more if they go winless than anything else. This will be a new reference point, because very few teams in the NFL have been able to be that bad – and we’d go into Week 17 so fired up to see if they could do it. It’s something attainable that we can root for!”
