As if the Red Sox didn't already have enough good news.
After his team claimed its ninth straight win, a 13-1 trouncing of the A's Friday night at Fenway Park, Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy announced that newly acquired Adley Rutschman was scheduled to catch five innings with Triple-A Worcester Saturday. The appearance would kick off what figures to be a short rehab assignment, with the catcher currently on the injured list with left wrist inflammation.
Rutschman, who came over to the Red Sox from the Orioles during Monday's trade deadline, last played on July 18, playing in two games following his appearance with the American League All-Star team.
Tracy wouldn't rule out Rutschman joining the Red Sox at some point during their four-game series in Toronto next week.
The other catcher who came over from Baltimore in the deadline deal, Jake Rogers, followed up a solid performance during Thursday's extra-inning game with a two-double night against the A's. It was his first game with multiple extra-base hits since Aug. 31, 2025. The veteran backstop also helped guide starter Payton Tolle to a memorable night in which the lefty struck out 14 in just six innings.
The Sox are now 27-3 since July 3 and 32-5 since June 25.
