These guys used to collect paychecks from the Red Sox and now they are still in the postseason

In case you missed it, the Red Sox are not in the postseason. That doesn't mean they aren't represented.

With all but two of the first-round series in the MLB playoffs decided -- with the Cubs/Marlins and Padres/Cardinals still sorting themselves out -- it's an interesting exercise (in my mind, at least) to take a look at how many participants have some sort of Red Sox ties.

This is what we have:

Mookie Betts (3-for-7, 3 doubles): The former Red Sox outfielder played a key role in helping his Dodgers sweep both games against the Brewers, with Los Angeles not waiting to take on the winner of San Diego and St. Louis.

Mitch Moreland (1-for-2, run): Although his playing time hasn't been full-time due to the presence of Eric Hosmer and St. Louis' lefty pitchers, the first baseman/designated hitter came up with a key single in San Diego's Game 2 two-run fourth inning.

Drew Pomeranz (2 IP, H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2Ks): The former Red Sox starter has done exactly what the Padres signed him to become, in invaluable reliever. He finished 2020 with a 1.45 ERA in 18 appearances.

J.B. Wendelken (3.2 IP, H, 3 K's): A 13th-round pick of the Red Sox in 2012, Wendelken was traded away in the 2013 three-way deal that brought Jake Peavy to Boston. He has become one of MLB's set-up men in 2020 and hasn't disappointed in the postseason.

Frankie Montas (2 IP, 2 H, R): Montas was also a Red Sox farmhand who left via the 2013 three-way trade at the deadline. After shining in 16 starts in 2019, the righty struggled in his 11 starts this season (5.60), now working out of the A's bullpen.

Mark Melancon (2 IP, 2 Ks): It's amazing to think how far the closer has come since leaving the Red Sox after the 2012 season, now owning 205 career saves and a career 2.89 ERA. He remains entrenched as the Braves' closer.

Josh Reddick (1-for-8, 4Ks): After a somewhat lackluster 2020, the former Red Sox prospect is off to a tough start to the postseason. By the way, he was another who joined Frankie Montas in a deal, being shipped from Oakland to the Dodgers in exchanged for a package that included Montas.

Andrew Miller (2 IP, H): The usually reliable reliever is once against being relied on by the Cardinals. The lefty bounced back from some injury-plagued seasons to post a 2.77 ERA in 16 appearances for St. Louis this season.

Jon Lester: He will pitch the third and decisive game for the Cubs if Chicago stays alive with a win over Miami Friday.

David Ross, Kevin Cash, Bob Melvin: All former backup catchers for the Red Sox who have their respective teams still playing as managers.
