The Red Sox have been clinging to any bits of optimism thrown their way throughout the firs two months of the 2022 season. That's why Wednesday night won't be forgotten any time soon.

Not only did the big-league club get its first compete game from a starter for the first time in three years, but there was a flash of excellence emanating from the minors that drew almost as much attention.

Making his first Triple-A start, top Red Sox pitching prospect Brayan Bello picked up where he left off with Double-A Portland, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out 10 in six innings for the Worcester Red Sox.

This comes after the 23-year-old managed a 1.60 ERA in his 10 Double-A starts, in which he struck out 42 in 33 2/3 innings.

"I look up to Pedro, but in the end it’s up to me to do whatever it takes for me to make it to the next level (Boston),” Bello told MassLive's Katie Morrison earlier in the week. “Pedro is one of my idols, but I would eventually like to be better than him.”
