Keith sounds off on slumping Alex Verdugo: 'Are you zapped?'
Alex Verdugo had a nightmare of a day to close out his first half of the season, misplaying what would have been the final out of the game and turning into a walk-off win by the Orioles.
Verdugo also made three inning-ending outs behind Aaron Judge after the captain reached base, continuing Verdugo’s brutal stretch at the plate over the last month plus.
Keith isn’t happy with the left fielder, who quickly won over Yankee fans to start the season but has quickly crashed back down to earth.
“When I see a left fielder who has played in that ballpark as a Red Sox and Yankee…and he misplayed a ball earlier in the series. Get it together,” Keith said. “Get it together, Alex Verdo-no-good-lately. I don’t know what happened to that guy. All the dog stuff, It’s a dog-eat-dog world. What’s going on, bro? Are you zapped? Talk about needing a break. That guy needs a break.
“That’s pitiful for a guy who in the beginning of the season was rated the best defensive left fielder in the game. I don’t know what happened to these guys.
“He is in a bad one offensively…this guy is completely lost.
In his last 25 games, this guy is 16-for-100. What?”
