Mets manager Luis Rojas was asked about Diamondbacks color commentator Bob Brenly mocking Marcus Stroman’s do-rag during Tuesday night’s game, and wasn’t shy in expressing his disappointment.

“Disappointed immediately,” Rojas said. “I think when you’re on a platform in this game, when you have the chance to inform and educate throughout the game or after the game, or as an analyst or broadcaster, you just have so many opportunities throughout the gamer and the season to keep the audience active and fill them with baseball knowledge. It’s just not the case there.”

Brenly, a former manager for Arizona, made an out-of-nowhere comment that was quickly called out for its racial undertones, as Stroman pointed out, during the broadcast of Tuesday night’s game.

“I’m sure that is the same do-rag that Tom Seaver used to wear when he pitched for the Mets,” Brenly said in a comment that was ignored by his play-by-play partner in the booth.

“There’s no room for a comment like that,” Rojas said. “It’s just very inappropriate. I was very disappointed when I heard it. If it was like a joke or something, I didn’t get it, and I know a lot of people didn’t get it.”

It’s not the first time Brenly has brought attention onto himself for similar comments. He made a remark about Fernando Tatis’ jewelry in 2019, and his latest comments were called out by Stroman himself in a tweet after the game, as the Mets pitcher has been an outspoken advocate for social justice in recent years.

“It’s comments there that…won’t help the baseball crowd and grow this game and understand what’s going on,” Rojas said.
