Gresh and Fauria: Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon joins the show
The greatest player in NFL history, former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, famously played football until age 45.
Current Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon thinks he could at least make it to age 41. New England’s dominant edge rusher joined WEEI’s Gresh and Fauria on Monday and while telling them that former Eagles tackle Jason Peters was the best player he’s lined up against, suggested that he could still be playing the game ten years from now:
“Yeah, I for sure think I can do it,” Judon said when asked if he could play for as long as Peters has. “You’ve gotta listen to your body at that point and if his body’s saying he can still play and he can be productive and be the type of player he wants to be, it’s up to an organization to give him a chance.”
So why was Peters the best player Judon played against?
“He’s so strong,” Judon explained. “When I went again him it was my rookie year, and he had just grabbed me on a pass rush move, like two-hand move, just grabbed me and was just like ‘we’re just going to chill out for this play’, there was nothing I can do.”
The four-time Pro Bowler has certainly improved since his rookie year, tallying 28 sacks over two seasons with the Patriots and after signing a four-year, $56 million contract during their 2021 offseason, restructured his deal a few weeks ago to earn $14 million in fully guaranteed money in 2023 with an earning potentially of up to $18 million.
Judon will lead a New England defense looking to once again hold it down as their offense looks to make a major improvement in 2023.
