gresh and fauria: Instant reaction to the Patriots hiring of Ben McAdoo as senior offensive assistant
After it was floated last week by SI's Albert Breer last week that the Patriots were "in talks" with former Giants head coach Ben McAdoo to join their offensive staff, the hiring is now reportedly being made official.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garofolo, New England is finalizing a deal with McAdoo to become an offensive assistant coach.
Breer added to Garofolo's report that McAdoo's title will be "senior offensive assistant", and he'll work closely with newly hired offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
Van Pelt and McAdoo worked together on the Packers' offensive staff from 2012-2013, with Van Pelt serving as running backs coach and McAdoo serving as quarterbacks coach.
The hiring of McAdoo marks the third such acquisition by the Patriots this offseason with ties not only to Green Bay, but to director of scouting Eliot Wolf. McAdoo, Van Pelt, and new defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery all served on Packers' staff during Wolf's time in their front office.
Wolf, who is effectively serving as New England's de facto general manager post-Bill Belichick, has reportedly, alongside new head coach Jerod Mayo, been directly involved as the Patriots build out their new coaching staff.
